Description

This week the Bible readings focus on faith. Genesis 12:1-9 is the story of Abram and Sarai and their faith in God’s presence with, and God’s promise to, them.

Paul in Romans 4: 13-25 expounds on Abraham’s faith and our inheritance of the promise and the fulfillment of God’s promise in Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Within the readings from Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26 we see unexpected faith demonstrated in Matthew the Tax Collector abruptly leaving his work to follow Jesus. There’s also the story of a Roman ruler coming to Jesus to seek new life for his daughter and, while Jesus is accompanying him to his house, a haemorrhaging woman reaching out to Jesus to be healed. When Jesus sees the dead girl lying on her bed, he takes her by the hand and she gets up! We can imagine the feelings of the father and the excitement of the crowd, and of course the news of these miracles spreads fast.
