Description
In this week’s readings we have the well-known parable of the Good Samaritan. This parable shows what it means to be a real neighbour, and thus how to live out the law. However, we can too easily act like the Priest or the Levite and not act as a real neighbour should.
Two of the activities in this week’s resources focus on the Parable of the Good Samaritan from the gospel of Luke. The Being a Neighbour Bible Engagement will interrupt the reading or hearing of this familiar passage, in order to prompt discussion and reflection around how to be real neighbours to those we met in our lives. Bandage Confessions helps us to confess the times we too have passed by on the other side or not shown justice or help to those in need as we read in Psalm 82. After confessing we are reminded that our relationship with God is restored.
The Colossians reading is the beginning of Paul’s and Timothy’s letter to the sisters and brothers in Colossae. We see an example of how Paul and Timothy were thanking God and praying for the people of Colossae. We can learn how to pray for others from this passage. We can learn about how we too should be striving to live. If we follow the instructions of this letter we will be loving God with our heart, soul, strength and mind, We will be loving our neighbours as ourselves. We will be becoming real neighbours.
The Prayer List and Colossians Blessing are both based on the Colossians readings. In the Prayer List activity, households will be invited to make prayer lists to help them pray for others based on how Paul and Timothy prayed for the people of Colossae. The Colossians Blessing can be used to help everyone to bless and be blessed by others as the worship service finishes.
