Description

This week marks the beginning of Advent, a time when we can anticipate, and prepare for, the arrival of Jesus. The resources for the four weeks of Advent will encourage us to take the time to reflect on what we are seeing, hearing, doing, and feeling, during this season of Advent, and what God might be revealing to us.
This week’s resources encourage us to take a good look around. We are encouraged to see the familiar with fresh eyes, and to notice things that we may never have seen before – the newly formed spider web, a plant flowering in our neighbourhood, a new Christmas ornament, someone’s earrings, a homeless person, a worried look – and to reflect on where God is at work.
The lectionary Bible readings are full of imagery – paths, branches growing, distress of the earth, roaring sea and waves, fainting, the Son of Man coming in a cloud, a fig tree, and traps. Imagine yourself in the readings and look around. What do you see on the surface? What is revealed to you if you look a little deeper? What is being revealed about God and the plan for humankind?
Through games, art, quiet reflection, and group huddles, it is hoped that people with different learning styles, and of different ages, will be able to truly see all that is around them, and how God is at work.
