Description

In many traditions The Lord’s Prayer is regularly prayed in the context of gathered worship. For some it will be associated with the celebration of the Lord’s Supper/Communion, for others it may be part of the Prayers of the People/Prayers of Intercession. For many it is an especially significant part of their weekly worship.

This week’s resource takes Luke 11:1-4 as a launching point for engaging with the Lord’s Prayer (also, of course, found in Matthew) in multiple creative ways.

We all carry burdens – things that we have said or done which have caused damage to the world around us, to our relationships with others and which separate us from God. “Forgive us our sins” is an invitation to reflect on the burdens we may be carrying and to imagine what it might be like to be released from them and to commit them to God in prayer – so that we may be released to live the life that God wants for us.

God promises through Jesus that there is nothing that we can do that will separate us from the love of God. In Jesus, God can forgive all the wrong things we have done. What an extraordinary gift that is for each and every one of us! “Bring Your Life!” is an adaptation of the Lord’s Prayer that encourages us to see the Lord’s Prayer as a template, not just for prayer, but for finding joy and wonder.

As important as the words themselves are, the addition of kinaesthetic engagement and music can provide at the very least a different (if not enhanced) experience of praying The Lord’s Prayer. Whilst you may not want to choose such a mode every week, be encouraged to give it a go this week!

Our Daily Bread offers two activities – Bread making and/or Mosaic making – that are designed to help your community think creatively about what it means to be reliant on God for all of our most basic daily needs.
