Description

Today we are focusing on Psalm 86:1-10 and Matthew 10:24-39.  In Psalm 86, King David is experiencing a difficult season.  Instead of relying on his own strength, wealth or power, he expresses his vulnerability before God, and his desire for God’s mercy and strength to wash over him.  David acknowledges who God is: God is good, He is ready to forgive and He is abundant in loving kindness.  David’s posture before God is one of reliance on God, whom He prays to in confidence knowing that His God cares intimately and will answer him.

Matthew 10:24-39 brings a challenge from Jesus: He calls for uncompromising loyalty, but warns that following Him will come with a cost; there may be rejection, persecution, or division.  But Jesus comforts His disciples, and us, by emphasizing God’s profound, perfect love and care.  Choosing to live courageous lives of faithful devotion to Jesus, entrusting our lives to God, is to follow the One who knows us intimately and loves us deeply.
