Description

Many well-known and favourite hymns/songs sung in churches focus on God’s love. Whether songs from past centuries, songs from past decades or songs from more recent years, the reality of God’s love continues to be celebrated through music. On this day in which one of the most famous “love” passages in the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13, is set as a lectionary reading, the Creative Music resource is an encouragement to sing, engage with and share stories around, hymns/songs that attest to and celebrate God’s love.

1 Corinthians 13 is one of the most well know parts of the Bible. With such a familiar passage, there is a risk that we can rush over the words and not give them the attention they deserve. The Creative Bible Engagement resource provides an opportunity to stop, pause and reflect, providing a greater chance for the words to sink into our hearts, as the passage is read. The Taking it Further suggestions provide scope to integrate the Bible reading into an Early Word or Sermon/Teaching time introduction.

Sometimes we can over-complicate things. Rather than doing so today, the invitation is to keep things simple in our prayers. Rather than introducing multiple ideas and concepts, the Creative Prayer resource leans into the power of repetition. Instead of coming up with fancy words, it encourages us to focus on the language of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7…

Love is patient; love is kind;

love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.

It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth.
