Description

This Resource Pack contains activities for the following lectionary readings: Jeremiah 28:5-9 (Creative Bible Engagement), Psalm 13 (Interactive Prayer) and Matthew 10:40-42 (Creative Bible Engagement and Interactive Prayer).

Jeremiah 28:5-9 is a reminder to us that God’s Words really matter, and although His promises always come true and are good for His people, His messages may contain things that are hard to hear or bring warnings of hardships to come rather than an easy life ahead.  Many of Jeremiah’s prophecies for God’s people were not happy news, but instead came with the call to turn to God and trust Him, rather than living lives without God at the centre.

Psalm 13 invites us into a space of lament; we are invited to, like David, bring the hard things in our lives or in the lives of those around to God, expressing these situations with raw and honest emotions.  Petitioning God to act according to His will, and for our good, shows that God can and does care for His people, and does act to bring about change.  And before our situation has changed, Psalm 13 invites us to, like David, recognize God’s unchanging character, and to trust in God’s goodness, love and faithfulness.

We see in Matthew 10:40-42 that how we act towards our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ really matters.  Jesus encourages His followers to treat each other with kindness, or welcome, and that when we do this we are doing nothing less than welcoming Jesus Himself.  Even small acts of welcome will be noticed by God who sees every act and cares about each one of them, and those involved in showing and receiving this kindness.
