Description
We want every neurodiverse child, young person and family to be fully welcomed, supported and empowered to flourish in their church community. During the Belonging by Design event held in 2025 we explored practical tools and gain a deeper understanding so that churches of all styles and sizes can be equipped to make this happen.
Daniel Giles is an Autistic advocate and graphic designer whose lived experience informs his work supporting people with Autism and other diverse needs. At 18, he was named Greater Bendigo’s Young Citizen of the Year for his advocacy, and in 2017 he received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for “Service to Disability and the Community.” A seasoned speaker since age 13, he shares practical insights into life as an Autistic person and, alongside his father and sister, co-presents the “From Diagnosis to OAM” seminar series to inspire families andcommunities nationwide. Daniel has created the What Happens in Church booklets—social story resources that prepare people on the spectrum (and their carers) for a church service.
This is Daniel’s presentation at the event.
