Description

We want every neurodiverse child, young person and family to be fully welcomed, supported and empowered to flourish in their church community. During the Belonging by Design event held in 2025 we explored practical tools and gain a deeper understanding so that churches of all styles and sizes can be equipped to make this happen.

Louise Gosbell is a biblical scholar with a focus on disability in the New Testament. She currently serves as the Research Manager at the Australian University of Theology where she lectures in New Testament, disability and is about to start teaching a new subject on children and teens with disability and neurodivergence in church communities. Louise’s scholarly work focuses on biblical studies and history and what it means to read the New Testament accounts of disability and embodiment in their ancient context. Louise’s PhD on disability and the gospel was published with Mohr Siebeck. Louise has also published numerous journal articles and book chapters on disability and the Bible and in church practice. Louise also wrote a set of accessibility guidelines for the Sydney Diocese of the Anglican Church of which she is a member. Louise lives with an acquired neurological disability following a significant illness.

This is Louise’s presentation at the event.
