Description
Highlighting the ideas of God’s love, God’s faithfulness, God’s righteousness and God’s justice from Psalm 36:5-10, the first resource can be used in a variety of different ways. Whilst originally conceived as a Call to Worship, it can potentially be used in multiple forms across the one gathering. The only limit is the scope of your imagination (well, that and your capacity at this particular time of the year)!
The creative Bible engagement suggestions focus on John 2:1-11 – the Wedding at Cana. This is a story of creative beginnings. We see Jesus’ first miracle in the beginning of his public ministry. We see the beginnings of a new family as a couple are married. The context is a celebration, a joyful, life affirming, creative celebration that Jesus is in the midst of. Jesus is not, however, just another passenger at the party. Jesus is a change-agent who brings the party to life! Based on content originally written by Beth Waldron Anstice as part of the Party On! Resource, these two resources comprise a Storycine (a story told with plasticine) and a creative Bible reading that focuses on wine, water and weddings (with a little bit of red cordial added to the mix)!
“Imagine a time when the water you drank,
Didn’t come from a tap or a pipe or a tank
But had to be pulled from deep in the ground,
with a rope and a jar from a well that you’d found…”
* Bonus resource: Aboriginal Sunday
Each year, on the Sunday before January 26, congregations and faith communities across Australia are encouraged to acknowledge ‘Aboriginal Sunday’. Some denominations take this further and mark the same Sunday as a Day of Mourning. Aboriginal Sunday (Day of Mourning) is an opportunity for congregations to go deeper in listening, learning and being led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Christian Leaders.
