Description
This week marks the beginning of Advent, a season of anticipation and preparation as we wait for the arrival of Emmanuel, God with us.
Over the coming weeks, these resources will guide us to reflect on where God is at work, in our world, bringing hope, peace, joy, and love, and how we can join in that work.
This week, we focus on hope. In a world where it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the darkness of conflict, fear, injustice, and grief, this resource invites us to look for signs of hope. While we don’t ignore the darkness, we also choose not to be defined by it. Instead, we look toward the hope God offers – a hope that doesn’t just comfort us, but that wakes us up, stirs us to action, and moves us to live differently.
Our Bible readings this week speak into the tension between darkness and light, despair and expectation, and the call to be active in the hope we find in God. We will focus on two key passages:
- In Isaiah 2:1–5, we are given a vision of many nations streaming toward God, seeking peace, wisdom, and transformation. It paints a hopeful picture of unity and restoration.
- In Romans 13:11–14, Paul gives a bold call: “Wake up!” We are urged to leave behind whatever holds us back and be ready to live in God’s light.
This resource invites us to explore what active hope looks like through creative reflection, movement, storytelling, and shared experience, so that we can carry that hope into the world around us.
